Father

In 1942, Gen. Douglas MacArthur was named Father of the Year by the National Father’s Day Committee in America. He sent the committee a note that read:

By profession I am a soldier and take pride in that fact, but I am prouder, infinitely prouder to be a father. A soldier destroys in order to build; the father only builds, never destroys. The one has the potentialities of death; the other embodies creation and life. And while the hordes of death are mighty, the battalions of life are mightier still. It is my hope that my son when I am gone will remember me, not from battle, but in the home, repeating with him our simple daily prayer, “Our father, Who art in Heaven.”

Fathers, God has honoured you with His title. May we all live up to it.

A bonus from an old favourite: 30 Days to a Better Man.

  1. A timely quotation: gets life’s priorities right! Hopefully the fathers in our community pursue with equal passion their relationship with God AND their families.

    • ….and it is because fathers have not that we are in the pickle that we are now. Name it and unfortunately we men and fathers in particular can claim a lot of the blame for it whether it be street violence, drug problems, meaningless sex, break down in marriage (actual and conceptual), abortion – example here: http://allofus.info/2014/09/attitudes-outcomes/

We men are the spearhead of the problem but that’s because you could have been the spearhead of the solution. May all the men who read this realise that. And may all the women who read this encourage the men in their lives to be so.

      Thanks for your thoughts!
