Antisocial Media

Censorship

Previously, we explored how freedom of speech is a key part in a thriving culture and how censorship stifles this. But what if what you are using everyday is actually training you to censor yourself out of talking about important things?
Keeping you out of the public discourse on important issues…sounds like a nasty piece of social manipulation? Some say it is. Whether it is or not is a matter for debate but the observation is intriguing. What are these things? Twitter and Facebook. Read more here and here.

Social Engineering

If that wasn’t enough, Facebook pushes the notion of escalating and fluid gender identity, has admitted to experimenting with its users’ moods (and was unapologetic about it) and has run afoul of tracking users and non-users without their consent.

If all of the above makes you feel like you’ve been experimented on, perhaps you may have been. Perhaps you currently are.
Given the amount of time many spend on social media, it’s a timely reminder of checking what you spend your time on….

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:2

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Philippians 4:8
