On Prayer

Today is the anniversary of the day I accepted God’s Gift of Salvation. Years later, one of the things I remember after that decision was conversing with God, prayer if you will. I remembered thinking that it should be something that happened all the time, not something which happens only at certain times and in certain locations.

So, on this special occasion I’d like to share some thoughts on prayer from a special person, my wife:

When I talk to God, do I talk to Him as someone in love?

Do I recognise and take the time to thank Him for all the little and big things He has done?

Do I share my thoughts openly?

Do I ask Him what His thoughts are?

Do I listen when He talks?

Prayer is a conversation with God.

Would I be honoured if my husband spoke to me like the way I pray to God?

Or.

Do I treat it like a chore?

Do I treat it like a tick list?

Do I do all the talking?

If I was God, would I want to listen to myself?

Thank God I’m not God.

Thank God He is God.

Challenging thoughts.

prayerSome handy guides on how to pray:

Pray with ACTS:

  • Adoration of God – for who He is. It concentrates your thoughts and feelings on exactly who it is you’re talking to.
    This helps you in…
  • Confession of who you are and where you have fallen short.
This places you in the right frame of mind for…
  • Thanksgiving. For God’s forgiveness, blessings, presence, guidance, friendship and all He has and will do.
  • Supplication – pressing in for whatever is on your heart no matter how big or small.
“The words, “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), mean you should stay in God’s presence long enough for Him to answer your prayer, or change your request.”
Word For Today, Saturday 13th January, 2015

Pray with JOY. Pray about…

  • Jesus
  • Others
    and then
  • Yourself.
