Historic Lessons For Now

In trying to establish West African Islamic rule, the group Boko Haram (meaning “non-Islamic” education is a sin) has kidnapped and killed thousands for 10 years. It has now pledged allegiance to ISIS, expanding the latter’s reach into that part of the continent.

With much of Western leadership and media in denial of the nature of what is happening, it is sobering to consider this history lesson:
In 1936, a British politician declared, “Hitler is arming more strenuously, more scientifically, and upon a larger scale than any nation has ever armed before.” He was denounced as a “warmonger” by his colleagues and the media. His name? Winston Churchill.

“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”
1 Timothy 2:1-4

God says we need to pray for our leaders because we all live with the consequences of where they lead us. Leaders however include each and every one of us. May we be thinking clearer and act accordingly.

“Christians serve a sovereign God, not a god of man’s own making. Our hope is in Him, not in government, not in our strength of arms, and not in good fortune. I believe with all of my heart that if God’s people stepped to the foreground of the culture and began boldly proclaiming and defending the Gospel, we would see a Great Awakening and the evil that overshadows the land would be rolled back and forced into the gutters from which it came. God is ready to move on behalf of His people, but we must seek Him. The church in the West, though strong, is largely silent, dormant, and focused on all of the wrong things. This sleeping giant must reengage the world with a confidence that comes from faith in God and a vigor that borders on the aggressive. We must hold our governmental leaders accountable, start equipping Christians to refute those evil ideologies that currently occupy the marketplace of ideas, and recover the Christian heritage that is rightly ours. If we do not, history has forcefully demonstrated that in the absence of good, evil must prevail.”

Yes!!! It is time for the church to stand up and get serious about the battle that Christians are in all around the world because of what has been allowed over time. It is a slippery slope down hill unless we take a stand and do something. Prayer is a powerful weapon and so too is God fearing Christians in places of authority and influence to help make changes. Thanks Kevin

    • Yes, the slippery slope is indeed real – one only needs to see where we’ve slipped down to on issues like abortion, sexuality and marriage to appreciate that. However, it has been said that such situations do present us with the opportunity of contrast – riches are better appreciated once poverty has been experienced.
God specialises in redemption, so it is never too late to be about His business. So I wholeheartedly agree with your point on prayer and working in places of influence. It takes All Of Us, right? 😉
