On Equality

“The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal.”
Aristotle

The Christian worldview is one of diversity. We are all different but of the same worth (Col 3:11, Gal 3:26-27).
But without God in the picture, there is no sound reason for an in-built or intrinsic worth in any of us. Without God, different means different worth. Little wonder then that many see their worth and that of others only in terms of what they can or cannot do. Hence the often illogical and unjust cries for “equality”. And sometimes, violently so.

Here are some thoughts about gender equality….

“It assumes that the way to improve a woman’s life—the way for her to find her greatest fulfillment and make her greatest contribution—is to “get out into the world—make money—climb the corporate ladder—succeed professionally.”

What if this was all horribly and totally backwards? What if the greatest fulfillment and joy and the most important contribution was raising children and developing loving and lasting family relationships? Continue Reading →
