Our Memory Verse for this week….

46: 28 December 2014

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever and wherever it may be, work purposefully and gloriously because your work isn’t for something but for Some One.

45: 21 December 2014

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9

God’s thoughts and ways are greater. Learn and lean on them.

44: 14 December 2014

“He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.”
Isaiah 2:4

War will end when The Prince Of Peace returns.

43: 16 November 2014

“This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118::24

Everyday, every moment is a hand made gift from God. Celebrate it.

42: 16 November 2014

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.”
Ephesians 5:22-24

To submit is not to be weak but to be strong. Strong enough to carry through the plan God has for your life.

41: 9 November 2014

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
1 Timothy 2:1-4

Pray for and obey those in authority in so far as they support a life of quiet, peaceable, godliness and reverence allowing all to be saved through knowing truth.

40: 26 October 2014

“All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:6

Follow your ignorance or The One who saved you from it. It’s your choice.

39: 19 October 2014

“And God spoke all these words, saying:
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
“You shall have no other gods before Me.
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh dayis the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days theLord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:4-6

God led you out of bondage, so have no other Gods or images before Him by honouring His name and your time with Him.

36: 28 September 2014

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

God is for you. The real question is, are you?

35: 21 September 2014

“Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him.
Children born to a young man
are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!
He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
Psalm 127:3-4

Do you see your children as a reward or a penalty? Are you only worried for them in an increasingly wicked world or do you see them as agents in the healing of it?

34: 14 September 2014

“The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?”
Jeremiah 17:9

Let God guide you first, then your heart and mind.

33: 7 September 2014

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
Psalm 46:10

Rest in His Sovereignty.

32: 31 August 2014

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him…”
2 Chronicles 16:9

He sees and He cares.

31: 17 August 2014

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16

God loves the world. That includes the person you see in the mirror. Remember that. Savour that. That also includes everyone else, including those who annoy you or will annoy you.

30: 10 August 2014

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105

God’s Word. Have it. Use it.

29: 3 August 2014

But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9

Who God is and what He has prepared – nothing compares.

28: 27 July 2014

“For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.”
Psalm 139:13-14

You and everyone else are amazing.

27: 20 July 2014

But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.
Mark 10:6-9

Never forget the profundity of sex and marriage.

26: 13 July 2014

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.””
1 Samuel 16:7

Like chocolate, it isn’t the wrapper that’s the best bit.

25: 7 July 2014

“Better is a little with righteousness,
Than vast revenues without justice.”
Proverbs 16:8

Wealth is not merely measured in material numbers. There are other riches to be gained or lost in how it is acquired.

24: 29 June 2014

” “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
“You shall not murder.
“You shall not commit adultery.
“You shall not steal.
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.” ”
Exodus 20:1-11

23: 15 June 2014

“A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.”
Proverbs 16:9

Planning is good but never forget God’s ultimate control.

22: 15 June 2014

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9

Be forever grateful and never boastful of your salvation.

21: 8 June 2014

“The Lord Himself goes before you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8

To be in God’s will is to always have Him before you. To be out of it, is to court fear and discouragement.

20: 1 June 2014

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world
John 16:33

Down here you will have trouble, that’s a given. But God has conquered it.
It’s this assurance which stirred Catherine Booth to say “The waters are rising, but so am I. I am not going under, but over.”

19: 26 May 2014

“For the Lord gives wisdom;
from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of His saints.”
Proverbs 2:6-8

Wisdom and protection are for those who are righteous.

18: 18 May 2014

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Galatians 3:28

All are one in God’s Family

17: 11 May 2014

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 7:11-12

God’s intentions to us are always for the good, do likewise.

16: 27 April 2014

But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
Matthew 5:37

Say what you mean, mean what you say and don’t be mean when you say it.

15: 20 April 2014

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13

The period sits at the end of sentence. It isn’t I can do all things, but all things through Christ who strengthens us. Never forget that in all the highs and lows of life.

14: 13 April 2014

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
John 15:3

The Cross, there is no greater love.

13: 7 April 2014

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Philippians 4:8

Fill your mind with only the best.

12: 30 March 2014

“The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.”
Psalm 14:1

Atheism is not only foolish, it is deadly.

11: 23 March 2014

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6

The path to success is trusting and acknowledging God.

10: 15 March 2014

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15

Your choice now, not your past or present determines the future of your house.

9: 9 March 2014

“Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.
The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.”
Proverbs 31:10-12

Be one, be thankful for one.

8: 2 March 2014

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:30-31

The meaning, the point of your life.

7: 18 February 2014

“The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.”
Psalm 19:1-3

God’s glory is plain to all if only they will hear.

6: 9 February 2014

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.”
Ephesians 5:25-29

To love is to sacrifice and truly seek the good of the other. Only those who truly love are fit to truly lead.

5: 1 February 2014

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Proverbs 18:21

The life or death you give with your tongue will return to you.

4: 26 January 2014

A renewed mind is needed for a perfect will.

Honour God by knowing why you hope and sharing it with grace.

2: 11 January 2014

“Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6

Your training influences their ending.

1: 1 January 2014

“Memorising Bible Verses is a discipline we lack in modern life.” I was struck when I heard this thought. So, let’s do something about it.

As the New Year is a time to consider cultivating good new habits, I thought it would be good to grow this one.
Even better, I’d like to make it a group exercise with you, my reader.

So, my wife and I will be picking a verse a week which addresses one of life’s many challenges and I invite you to try to memorise it as well.
God’s Word is eternal and deeply practical, so when you have instances where any of these verses made all the difference in the challenge you faced, please share your testimony. It’ll be a great encouragement to me and all your fellow readers.

So with the first one, let’s explore why…

“Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.”
Psalm 119:11

Why memorise Bible Verses? So that it will be in your heart, an integral part of your being so that you will be what God made you to be and nothing less.
