You may be aware of the van explosion outside the office of Australian Christian Lobby.
Two things stand out with regards to this incident.
Firstly, the police were quick to state that the driver of this vehicle wasn’t ”politically, religiously or ideologically motivated”. This is a very strange statement. Unless this was purely an accident (unlikely), what drives human actions other than political, religious and ideological motives?
Secondly, it would be easy to shrink in the face of what appears to be a attack. But is this not what this season is all about? Christmas, a celebration of God coming to earth in human form. God invading enemy territory armed with His mercy, power, love and grace. God on the move.
As we pray for the victims and aggressor in this incident let us also move with prayers, voices, hands and feet for a greater measure of what Christmas is all about in our culture. For with that we will be more tolerant and gracious. And only with that will there be peace on earth and good will to all.
