Verb: To dominate or completely kick a task or person’s ass.
Best used when accompanied by a swipe of the hand and shake of head. Growl recommended.
The above comes from the Urban Dictionary. Since becoming a parent, I’ve grown to appreciate the sentiment expressed. It actually originates from the extremely protective and violent tendencies of a mother bear whenever her young is under perceived or real danger.
And it’s actually biblical. It is used in Proverbs as a measure of an extremity…
“Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, Rather than a fool in his folly.”
Here’s the challenge: just how protective are you of your children? This question applies to those under your care or influence. And it’s not just a question regarding your physical children (if any) but also of any grandchildren, nephews, nieces etc. including spiritual ones.
Obviously, one would “mother bear” (in a Godly way) anyone who physically or verbally harms your child. What may be less clear is one who harms your child by tainting their outlook on the world. One who warps your child’s sense of God, decency and care for themselves, others and the world around them.
One who would encourage your child to be a fool in his or her folly.
Isn’t such a person also in need of the same treatment? Aren’t such ideas also in need of some mother bear treatment?
Jesus in John 10:10
So it is with views that teach your children to engage in harmful physical activities whether they be of the substance or sexual kind.
So it is with views that teach you’re an accident with no intrinsic worth and that someone only matters for what they can do and what they own.
So it is with views that unquestioningly teach there is no God and we are bubbles of matter floating through a meaningless nothing devoid of grace, love and purpose.
It’s time to confront and correct these dream, soul and eternity destroying errors. It’s time to stop letting them hijack all that is good as they run unchecked through wider culture, stealing, killing and destroying the hopes and eternities of generations.
It’s time to Mother-Bear them.
Every person is made in the image of God and worthy of care and respect. Ideas are not.
How? Start with the right thinking. Always be ready for the reason for the hope that is in you by aligning your worldview with God’s through prayer, His word and sharpening yourself up with those who do the same. Then apply this to your circle of influence.
Please realise that your circle of influence is larger than just your family, friends and colleagues. Comment on online articles and social media posts – don’t let the wrong opinions stay out there unchecked and unchallenged. Contact your political representative with your opinions to ensure they truly represent you. If they don’t or they won’t, vote accordingly. This is of particular significance for those who are in the USA and Australia – this year is an election year.
Also remember, your dollars vote too. What are your purchases endorsing and opposing? This is especially important with regards to your entertainment choices.
Sometimes, that may mean swimming against the trend of the times. Sometimes, that may mean resisting laws of the land which violate The Higher Law.
Always that means being vigilant. Evil is a leech which latches onto anything nobel, tainting by its presence and crippling by its ferocity in extracting any good it can.
“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
1 Thessolonians 5:5-6
Love does good. And the good thing to do is often the hard thing. And the hard thing includes getting outside of your comfort zone where the demons prowl but confront them we must. You may be the only one who can where you are and that only makes you all the more powerful. And when we do, we must do it as love does – uncompromisingly, clearly, graciously and lovingly.
Ideas have consequences, let’s address the bad ones and help proclaim the good ones.
“As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.”
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
“THE wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
“They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.”
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”
“If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.”
“An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.”
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
“When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.”
