Overcoming Evil 2

isisThe constant news stream of ISIS atrocities is shocking. But more shocking yet is some of the reaction to this – forgiveness. This is the scandal, the shocking nature of Amazing Grace.

As Christians, we are called to be living sacrifices. It is challenging to see just how much God can trust some with this sacred honour. It is also humbling – are we ourselves as trustworthy?

“I have to forgive them. Not because I have because it’s order. But we have to forgive because to let the grace transfer from generation to generation. If not, that means the pain and the hate will close the way to the Grace of God.”

“We have to take care of our kids. They are the future. If we will not take care of our kids, our kids now, the next generation of ISIS, they will be from our side.”
Father Douglas, Northern Iraq.

This is power of forgiveness – a force strong enough to hold God to a Cross. This is how Saul became Paul. This the force which confronted an ISIS fighter…

“The fighter said just before he killed one Christian, the man said, ‘I know you will kill me, but I give to you my Bible.’ The Christian was killed and this ISIS fighter actually took the Bible and began to read it.”

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:21

…he has now gone from one who enjoyed killing Christians to seeking to be one. Longer account here from Voice Of The Martyrs.

This is God’s way of overcoming evil, with good.
