Abraham Lincoln was the president who led the United States through its Civil War, its bloodiest and greatest moral, constitutional and political crisis.
He referred to his civil war enemies as fellow human beings who were in error. That did not go down well with an elderly lady who said they were irreconcilable enemies who must be destroyed.
Lincoln had this to say to her, “Why, madam, do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?”
Same ends, different means.
Little wonder he is respected as one of the greatest leaders in The United States’ history.
This great thought was demonstrated in flesh and blood a long time ago…
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
Romans 5:8-10“When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
Prov 16:7
It’s no coincidence that Lincoln had this to say about the bible…
In regard to this Great Book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good the Saviour gave to the world was communicated through this book.
Greatness starts in the mind. Clearly, his was filled with the right ideas.
