Indivisible

The word individual comes from the latin individuus which means “not divisible”. What happens if society insists on dividing you up?

Compartment Syndrome

disintegratedA hazard of contemporary life is society’s insistence that you compartmentalise. It’s the idea that you can have your convictions but not around here.
You hear it in phrases like “Don’t bring religion into this discussion” and “Leave your values at home, it has not place here at work.” Aside from telling you not to bring your values into a situation makes them guilty of doing exactly the opposite, there’s another problem with this idea. The deeper problem is that they are telling you to lose your integrity.

Integrity Is Easier

“For the Lord gives wisdom;
from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of His saints.”
Proverbs 2:6-8

An individual is supposed to be indivisible. An integrated whole, one who carries him or herself from one place to another with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength.

There is little respect for someone who lacks integrity yet if you think about it, that’s exactly what they are asking you to lose when they insist you compartmentalise yourself.

To have integrity isn’t easy but it’s harder to be divided. It’s harder to be disintegrated.
Life’s hard, why make it harder?
