Not being a Chess Geek, I can’t say I have a deep understanding of it. That said, I read something about it which makes sense and more importantly, makes for an eternal point.
The start of a chess game sees the board filled with pieces. Neither player has a strategic advantage. The situation simplifies as the game progresses by pieces being removed from the board. As pieces are removed, strategic opportunities of attack and defence emerge as the space each piece controls changes.
Each remaining piece increases in significance as pieces are removed. Towards the end of the game, the worth of each piece reaches its peak. Even a humble pawn, one which was insignificant at the start of the game, becomes a powerful element.
Could it be in this vast, strategic sweep called history that you are such a pawn?
Your Power As One
As you stand with your Christian values and “other pieces fall around you”, you may be feeling like an isolated pawn in your corner of the chess board of life. This isolation deepens as you are continually told of your insignificance in a hostile and increasingly Godless world.
Rather than isolation, might it be that God has strategically moved you to where you are as the only Ambassador of His hope? Might you be one of His last few pieces standing there in the end game of history?
Remember, a pawn can only go forward, never back and the more it does, the closer it reaches to the other side.
Here’s the punch-line: When a pawn reaches the other end of the chess board, it gets upgraded into the most powerful piece – the Queen. Sound familiar? 🙂 Onward Christian soldier…
But unlike chess, in real life, the agents on the board, namely us humans can chose to disobey the vision of God, the master strategist of all creation. Our obedience and trust is needed for God’s winning plan to be made flesh for our lives and therefore, the rest of humanity.
In a staggering mix of humility and wisdom, God has manoeuvred you to where you are far more powerful and significant for His Glory than you can ever imagine.
Midnight is when a Solitary Light on the Hill is at its brightest. Dare* to be one.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16
PS: God can be involved in everything, if only you let Him. This article came to me whilst reading a photography article.
A photography article. Hence the saying, God moves in mysterious (and all-encompassing) ways.
Keep advancing forward….
*Please keep in prayer those of us daring to be involved in an upcoming Worldviews Conference this week. For both speakers and audience alike, may we shift paradigms for the greater good.
