Yes or No to Noah?

So we’ve been inundated with promotions and commentary on the Movie Noah (pun intended). I’ve been asked to share about it. Since I’ve been asked and have been brought up to share, here goes…

Firstly, I’ll declare that I haven’t seen it. So that makes it hard to be clear about this.
That said, I have information from several reliable sources that (too) much poetic licence has been taken in the making of it. Not surprising given the movie industry isn’t exactly a Godly one and that they have tried to stretch a few bible chapters into a full length movie.

That’s all well and good but what do we do with it? You could ignore it but to be unaware is to lose an opportunity to share intelligently. If you endorse it, that risks approving a corrupt biblical account and God knows we don’t need anymore of that.

Perhaps a balanced approach is required? Since the movie industry judges the success of a movie by the opening week/weekend takings, if you’re not wanting to endorse their script butchery, skip seeing it early on. The only problem with that approach is that you’re not aware of the problems with it and you won’t know how to talk about it intelligently. A way around that is to get the information from trusted online sources without “voting the movie up” with your dollars.

The other extreme is avoiding it altogether. I’m not convinced that’s the most productive approach since a withdrawal from the marketplace is exactly why we’ve had problems in this and other fields in the first place.

Ultimately, have a think and pray about how you’ll engage in this latest cultural battle front. To help you with that, have a look at the following…

  • Overviews: A very good overview of it can be found here (caution, has spoilers) and another here.
  • Endorsements for the movie can be found here and here.
  • Articles not in favour of the movie can be found here and here.

Finally, here’s rather proactive move with regards to this whole opportunity.
